Windows X net

Windows x net is a new Drupal-based Mac-friendly Windows site. Unfortunately they screwed up the Drupal configuration badly — all users have FULL administrative access! I took advantage of having administrative access to fix it by turning off all administrative options for regular users.

Google to invest 70.000 USD in Drupal

Dries Buytaert: Google to invest 70.000 USD in Drupal:

Rumor has it that Google will sponsor 14 Drupal developer stipends in this year’s Summer of Code program (SoC). To inspire young developers to work on FOSS projects during the summer, Google will provide a stipend of 5000 USD to each student developer, of which 4500 USD goes to the student and 500 USD goes to Drupal project (or to the mentors). With 14 accepted applications this adds up to a 70.000 USD investment over a three-month period.

Thanks to Google, Drupal’s SoC organizers and the 36 Drupal mentors to bring on board a range of fresh talents.

MacMegasite upgraded to 4.7

I just finished upgrading MacMegasite to Drupal 4.7. The upgrade was quick & painless. I had already installed the modules, made a few patches (most notably redirecting the feed to FeedBurner) and tested everything with a back up of the database from several days ago. To do the switch, I disabled posting, dumped the database, restored it to a new database, ran the upgrade script & configured it. I then switched the new directory with the old site directory.

Upgrading MacMegasite

I’ve been working on upgrading MacMegasite to Drupal 4.7. It’s now running on my MacBookPro, so I’ll probably go live with it in a few days.

My old theme didn’t work with 4.7, so I made this new theme based on Chameleon.

Drupal 4.7 Upgrade

I upgraded the condo site to Drupal 4.7 last night, since it uses a standard theme and only a few additional modules (event & image). I came up with a good strategy for upgrading, although it probably won’t work on a web host other than DreamHost.

Drupal 4.7.0 released

Drupal 4.7.0 released:

After more than a year of development we are ready to release Drupal 4.7.0 to the world. More than five years, 13 major releases, 30+ servicing firms employing 100+ Drupal professionals, 300+ third party modules, and over 55,000+ Drupal powered sites later, Drupal 4.7.0 is finally here and it rocks!

Drupal is an open source content management platform. Equipped with a powerful blend of features, Drupal can support a variety of websites ranging from the personal weblog of Tim Berners-Lee, podcast sites like TWIT.tv, and community driven sites like SpreadFireFox.com, to large media sites like TheOnion.com, and even sites for NASA.

2005 has been explosive for the Drupal community. Drupal.org usage has almost tripled in terms of page views, downloads, and number of users, and with the release of Drupal 4.7.0 we are seeing this new found energy drive the platform development forward at an amazing pace. There have been over 338 contributors to this latest release with over 1500 patches which is almost triple our previous record with Drupal 4.6 of 523 commits by 50 developers. These new contributions are seen in the major usability improvements, new Drupal core functionality, and expansion of the Drupal development framework that will afford themers and contributing developers even greater flexibility and power.

PSP section at MacMegasite

I’ve eliminated the WordPress installation at psp.macmegasite.com and moved that content to the main site. I added a PSP category & redirected psp.macmegasite.com to http://www.macmegasite.com/psp which will display the same content as the old PSP site. This will make it easier to add content and allow PSP content to be searched as part of the main site.

I’ve also been trying out Drupal 4.7 & looking at some new themes. The meta theme looks really nice, but it doesn’t have room for the google search box. Also, the amazon items module doesn’t work. I’ll probably update the condo site first, since it’s a pretty standard Drupal installation with few extra modules.
