Travel Day

I didn’t get a chance to post yesterday, but I had an unusually pleasant and uneventful trip. Sunday after US Thanksgiving is supposed to be the worst travel day, but in this case it wasn’t.

I got to the airport at 5AM for a 7AM flight, which meant I had to be up almost 3AM EST. There was no line at the ticket counter and I breezed through security in no time. My first flight to PHX left on time and even arrived early. My connecting flight to Vancouver left on time and also arrived slightly early. It took only a few minutes to get through Canadian customs and the baggage claim went quickly.

The only delay was getting to the hotel from the airport, since there was a parade tying up traffic downtown.

Going to Vancouver

I’m leaving early tomorrow morning for Vancouver. This will be my third trip up there this year. I’ve loaded my iPhone and 80G iPod with lots of podcasts I have to catch up with on my flight. I have EDGE roaming turned off with the latest iPhone software, so hopefully I won’t get a huge bill like I did the last time I was in Vancouver. I’ll only be there until Friday and I’ll be spending all day in the office, but I’ll try to meet up with a few people in the evenings.

My kitchen is done!

The guys put in the last piece of granite today. The bar and most of the backsplash went in yesterday, but they were missing the side piece and the piece behind the stove. They still have to come back for one last time to plaster & clean up a few things.

Kitchen counter installed

The granite counter top was installed today. They didn’t have the pieces for the backsplash & bar yet, so those are being installed Monday. When that’s done, my kitchen will be finished!

Kitchen almost done

The guys were back today and finished putting in the cabinet lights, so they were able to put the doors on the cabinets. I picked out the granite counter tops, which should be ready by the end of next week.

Kitchen Day 10

A lot happened today. The floors are finished, all of the cabinets are mounted, most of the appliances are in, and the ceiling light is up. The guys had someone come over and measure for the granite or quartz countertops. The kitchen is now mostly usable (except for the lack of a sink). Besides the sink & countertops, they still have to put in lights under the cabinets.

The guys are going away until the middle of next week. I’ll have granite & quartz samples tomorrow so I can pick out the countertop. Not much will happen until the countertop is ready.

Kitchen renovation day 8

The guys made a lot of progress today. The microwave oven and most of the cabinets are in. The stove is in place but not connected, along with the bottom cabinets on that side. The wall is uneven, so they need to fix it before they install those cabinets.

Day 7: Kitchen Cabinets!

The guys finished painting, picked up the kitchen cabinets, and started installing them. One of them fixed my doorbell, which hasn’t worked since I’ve lived here. A piece was stuck and it took less than a minute to fix.

Day 6 of renovation

The guys did more electrical work, closed up the walls where they could, applied textured surfacing to the walls & ceiling, and picked up the stove. They’re making lots of progress – if everything goes according to schedule, the cabinets & floor should be in by the end of the week and the washing machine & drier should be hooked up.

All of this mess is starting to take its toll, however. The cats are freaking out and I almost lost Midnight (more about that in another post), and the paint smell & dust is getting to me. I’ve been sneezing continuously all day.
